J.O.Y. SINGERS: SENIOR ADULT CHOIR
A new choral group, The Joy Singers, is a ministry of the Johns Creek United Methodist Church. It provides an opportunity for anyone 55+ to be involved in the joy of singing. Through our own involvement, we plan to share the joy we have as a group, showing the love of God as we interact with our audiences. “Lifting voices in song remains a chief way that we praise God. Singing praises together unites minds and hearts, breath and voices – indeed the whole being – in praise.” (Hakyoung Cho Kim)
The Singers will sing throughout the community, sometimes for our senior adult group at JCUMC, sometimes for retirement communities, for assisted living residences and nursing facilities, and for other opportunities that may arise. Singing as senior citizens has been shown scientifically to be one of our best activities, offering a myriad of benefits. It increases our brain functionality, increases our self confidence, and helps to ensure a better quality of life through regular interaction with others. Taking deep breaths and letting the air out slowly builds your core. Stress tends to disappear as one is singing.
First Rehearsal: November 30 at 10:30 a.m. in the Gathering Room. In preparation for our choir debut at Arbor Terrace on December 7, at 3pm
Official Rehearsal Schedule: Thursday, January 11 – Thursday March 8, from 10:30a.m.-12:00p.m.
