Johns Creek United Methodist Church will hold its 5th annual Great Day of Service on Saturday, September 13th. On this day, members and friends of our congregation will reach out to individuals and community care service organizations. We will spread throughout the Greater Atlanta area to paint, repair, clean and hammer. We will knit and sew and play games. There will be plenty of opportunities for children to serve. This is a wonderful family activity! The back of this brochure includes information on some of the organizations we will be serving.

We hope you will want to be a part of this great day and will register yourself and your family for a project of your choice. There is something for everyone!

If you are out of town or simply must miss this great time on September 13th, there are other ways to contribute to the Great Day of Service.
Inside you find a list of supplies we will need for some of our projects and you can always participate by contributing to those needs.

A volunteer registration form is enclosed and are placed throughout the church. There will be collection boxes in several locations throughout the church. You may also mail your completed for to the church office.

We are hoping to make this our biggest day yet - and we need all of your hands and hearts to make it happen! We have over 20 organizations and projects that need YOU! In all we need at LEAST 300 helping hands!

Snack breakfast will be provided outside the main entrance of the church.

PRAYER and COMMUNION

We will join hands and offer praise and prayer to God on this special day. We will also observe Communion together.

9:00 am
DEPART TO SERVE
After communion, teams will gather to depart to their project sites.

 
Great Day of Service Notes

Great Day of Service T-Shirts
GDoS t-shirts will be distributed to volunteers on Sunday mornings, August 31st and September 7th for those who register before September 5th. T-shirts will also be available for pick-up on the morning of the Great Day of Service. Please specify your t-shirt size on the registration form.

How to Volunteer
A registration form is enclosed and can be downloaded from the JCUMC website: http://www.johnscreekumc.org/.  Complete the form fully and drop it off in a collection box located throughout the church or in the church office or email it to Karen or Gena. A registration table will be set up on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings in the gathering area outside of the Sanctuary. Registration deadline is September 5th.

Kids Camp Donation Wish List
Travel size toiletries (for those who travel - take your own supplies on your trip and pack the hotel stash every day!); toothbrushes, travel toothpaste, dental floss, Gallon sized Ziploc bags.

Provides long term residential treatment for women in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Decatur

Creative Community Services
Provides homes for adults with developmental disabilities. Duluth

Crossroads Community Ministry
Builds relationships with people who are homeless by providing hot meals, mailroom, special programs for those with disabilities. Atlanta

Drake House
Emergency Residential Housing program for homeless single women with children. Norcross

Enable
Enabling individuals with developmental disabilities to live full and independent lives in the community. Roswell

Feed My Lambs
Offers tuition free education to impoverished children. Cumming

Feed the Hungry
Provides food to low income, at-risk families in the North Georgia area and beyond. Atlanta

The Forsyth Disability Coalition
Provides assistance to disabled residents in need in Forsyth County. Cumming

Foster Care Foundation
Provides free clothing, toys and safe infant equipment to
foster children. Roswell

Gateway Center
Homeless Service Center that provides showers, clothing,
laundry services, lockers, toilets. Services include
employment training, mental health and physical health
assistance for the chronically homeless. Atlanta

Good Sheppard Place
A Retirement Community
Low income housing unit with 48 apartments for Senior
Citizens. Cumming

Humane Society Forsyth County
A no kill animal shelter for homeless dogs and cats.
Cumming

Interfaith Outreach Home
Provides transitional housing to homeless families with
children. Residents receive case management, mental
health counseling, life skills training. The goal of the
program is to help homeless families become self-sufficient. Doraville

Med Share International
Provides surplus medical supplies to international hospitals
for the needy. Decatur

Mountain View Personal Care Home
24 hour care for less fortunate elderly people. This agency receives no support from any federal agency and depends solely on community support.

No One Alone
Offers emergency shelter, individual counseling
and support group, play therapy, children's services, legal advocacy, financial assistance and educational scholarships to help victims of domestic violence. Dahlonega

Norcross Co-Op
Emergency aid to low income and homeless families living in Gwinnett County. Norcross

North Fulton Community Charities
Provides emergency financial assistance, food and clothing to residents of North Fulton including Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton, and Johns Creek.

Project Extend
Home Repairs for seniors 62+ and disabled home owners. Atlanta

Rainbow Village
Provides families in North metro Atlanta in domestic or economic crisis with a healing environment to rebuild their lives through a community based transitional housing program that promotes self- sufficiency. Norcross

Tiny Stitches
Provides basic layettes containing clothing and knitted items to disadvantaged newborns and preemies in North Georgia. JCUMC

United Methodist Children's Home
Campus residential care for children 12 and older, independent and transitional living program for youth ages 17-21, foster family care for any age, adoption, short-term family housing on campus. Decatur

Whispering Hope
A women's resource and pregnancy center providing a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to inform, educate, and provide an outstretched hand to women faced with an unexpected pregnancy. Cumming
