Our Christian Education Ministry provides numerous learning experiences for children,
youth, and adults in an atmosphere of fellowship, love, and acceptance.
Through Christian Education, we invite persons to increase their understanding
and faith as they are inspired and challenged, by study and example to:
- Know and experience God through Jesus Christ
- Grow in understanding of God's promises for themselves
- Grow and Serve as Christian Disciples.
The United Methodist Church is a church which does not care just about social issues and the state of the heart but also the state of the mind. Through the Sunday School, the children, youth and adults are given opportunities to build a strong relationship with God. Sunday School is a place where we can ask questions, be challenged, and be affirmed in what we believe about God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit. Sunday School is a place where we, in a loving and caring environment, support each other in our faith journey and how to live as Christ disciples.
Everyone is welcome to be involved in a Sunday School class at JCUMC. Sunday School is offered at 9:45 AM. We would like to encourage you and your family to make Sunday morning at Johns Creek UMC a two - hour experience by attending a worship service and a Sunday School session. Sunday School is for everyone and there is a place for you at JCUMC.
If you have any suggestions or questions about the Sunday School program, please feel free to contact Rev. Mary Gene Lee at 770-497-8215, ext. 1227.
Curriculum for Children and Youth
All Sunday School classes from Preschool through Adult use approved United Methodist curriculum.
Maps are available on the Sunday School Brochure.
Nursery: Rooms 158-161. The nursery is available for all three hours and is staffed by qualified caring individuals supported by loving volunteers under the supervision of our Nursery Director, Vicki Kratzer.
Preschool: Our Children are divided into classes according to their age as of September 1st each year. Classes are offered for ages older 2’s through Kindergarten. The 8:30a.m. class uses the Live B.I.G. Curriculum. The 9:45 a.m. classes use “Exploring Faith”. The 11:00a.m. classes use the "Live B.I.G." curriculum. We use United Methodist Curriculum in all our classrooms. It uses a variety of learning styles that help reinforce the stories so that children see, hear and think God’s message in their daily lives. Classes are located on the 1st floor.
Elementary: Classes are offered for 1st through 5th grade at 9:45 a.m. Children explore Bible stories by rotating on a weekly basis through a variety of learning centers. These centers include science, games, drama, craft, mission, music and storytelling. Drop off for all ages is always in the Chapel on the 1st floor.
Youth: Classes are offered for 6th through 12th grades. 9:45 a.m. classes use United Methodist Curriculum which offers Bible-based lessons to help youth claim the Scriptures as their own. Youth examine the entire Bible over a 6-year period in small and easy to manage segments where reading the Bible becomes a lifelong journey. Classes are located on the 3rd floor.
College: The college class meets on Wed. evenings throughout the summer months and Holiday breaks. They are located on the 3rd floor and taught by Brent Huff.
Adult: A variety of classes with different formats are offered at 9:45. Most are located on the 2nd floor. For more information on adult classes, scroll down to the descriptions below.
Inquirer’s Class: This informative and fun 4-week introductory session about the United Methodist Church in general and JCUMC specifically. The class meets in the conference room (Room 202) at 9:45 during February, March, April, May, September, October and November 2008.

Boomers & Empty Nesters Room 211
The Boomers & Empty Nesters Class is made up of married and single adults who were born circa 1940 to 1960. As one class member described us, “We are middle-aged, cute, and cuddly” and love to remember songs, movies and TV shows from our childhood and youth. We enjoy sharing our opinions and values with each other. Our discussions usually include sharing and reflecting on our experiences, then challenging ourselves to integrate the biblical and resource information to grow in our faith. We share responsibility for teaching and leading discussions and plan have at least one social get-together outside the Sunday school hour each month.

Good News Room 113-114
We are a Bible-based class of older youths (married and single) who enjoy fellowship with each other, studying the Bible and understanding Scripture better. We have: a committee of class members who research curriculum for the year and recommend topics for the team teachers (For the year 2007-08 we are following the Adult Bible Studies.); a team of 6-8 men and women who share teaching; a "prayer chain" alert plan so all the prayer warriors can support prayer needs that come up between class meetings; a social time before each lesson with coffee/tea and goodies; support of missions with our prayers, service and money including revisiting Gulfport and assisting build homes. In a church as large as JCUMC, it is important to participate in a small group such as a Sunday School Class. Our class is our family. We care for each other as family.

Journey Class Room 216
The Journey class is composed of mostly married couples with children ranging in age from newborn to high school, who are very active in other church ministries and may not make every class every week due to other church commitments. Lessons are biblically based group discussions with rotating class facilitators sparking great interactive class conversations on our individual faith "journey". Lesson topics change every four to six weeks keeping us focused on the issues and scriptures that enable us all to become better disciples. The friendships of our class bring us together quarterly for social events that may include dinner, pottery classes and even the occasional golf outing. The Journey class faithfully welcomes visitors with open arms.

Next Step Room 226
Whether you are 25 or 65, we are all seeking the same God and this class is seeking you. We don’t achieve God’s full desires for our life, realize his plans, or even understand his very basic call on our life overnight. There is no numbered guide we can follow in order to experience all God would have us to experience. Instead, we should simply look for the “next step.” Whether you are new to the Church or someone who has “Been there and done that,” you are welcome. If you are quiet, soft spoken or one of those people that can’t be shut up, please join us. Hopefully this class will be a mixture of individuals that offer a fresh perspective as well as those of you who may be a little farther down the road in your walk with God.

Overtime Room 214
Overtime is a class of 30, 40, and 50 year olds who are single, married, with and without children. Visitors will be warmly welcomed to this class of Christians who are always challenging ourselves to learn more about who we are "in Christ.” We have stimulating conversations seasoned with a laugh or two while stretching our knowledge of the Bible and its application to our lives.

The Cross Walk Class Room 225
The Cross Walk Class is a group of parents in their 40s and 50s who have children ranging from age one to twenty five. We enjoy engaging conversation that focuses on cultural topics and how they relate to the church, our home, and our relationships. Our often lively debates are an effort to keep us focused on centering Christ in our very hurried lives. We change our lesson focus every 6-12 weeks and share responsibility for leading the class.

The Grace Class Room 220
Welcome to the Grace Class Class! We are diverse –married with children (newborns and up), single, divorced, and members attending without spouses. We use a variety of resources including books, current topics and video series to stimulate discussion of our faith and how we can grow in our relationship with Christ and our neighbor. Our study topics range from as short as a week to 3 months, but are always structured so visitors can comfortably participate in the conversation. Come join us this Sunday!

Women of the Word (WOW!) Room 201
This class is new and open to all women who find themselves attending Sunday School alone; i.e. those who are divorced, widowed, single, or married but husbands do not attend, or are serving as teachers with children, etc. Our purpose is two-fold. First, we have chosen to alternate between the study of specific books of the Bible (for personal Christian growth & understanding), and books that will aid application of faith in our own personal lives through service. Second, we believe in laughter and fellowship! Sharing, caring and learning to understand each other is considered vital, as we each find and fill our own places of ministry at JCUMC. Come and see!
